Contracts Signed for Financial Support of Sarajevo's Safe Houses in BiH

(Patria) - The Mayor of Sarajevo, Samir Avdić, today signed contracts in the City Hall with representatives of eight associations and foundations managing safe houses in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

At the initiative of Svjetlana Šošić, Deputy Chairwoman of the City Council, funds for the support of safe houses in the Sarajevo City budget have been increased, securing a total of 200,000 KM for their work this year.

With this support, the City of Sarajevo continues to assist organizations that provide protection to women and children, victims of domestic violence. The goal is to send a message that the fight against violence and the protection of women's dignity must be a permanent social priority.

Safe houses, as emphasized during the reception, are not just temporary accommodation. They represent an environment that provides safety, recovery, and a new beginning.

Women and their children are provided with psychological and legal assistance, as well as numerous educational programs that help them build a more independent and secure life.

- A safe and healthy family is the foundation of a healthy and promising society - said Mayor Avdić, emphasizing that "we all have an obligation to provide timely and adequate support to victims of violence".

Thanking the City for its continuous support, the representatives of the safe houses stated that it is extremely important to encourage women who have been suffering domestic violence for years to seek help, to be informed about their rights, and about the ways in which institutions can and must protect them.

Contracts were signed with representatives of the Foundation of Local Democracy Sarajevo, UG Medica Zenica, Foundation LARA Bijeljina, UG Budućnost Modriča, UG Žena BIH Mostar, UG Vive žene Tuzla, Foundation Udružene žene Banja Luka, and UG Žene sa Une Bihać.
