'People, can anyone see the runway? We need to climb!' These are the last words of the pilot of the Serbian Army helicopter that crashed on March 13 near Nikola Tesla Airport in Belgrade, and in the accident, seven people died, including a baby being transported from Novi Pazar for treatment, reports the Patria News Agency.
The report of the technical commission of the Air Force and Air Defense Command, spanning 500 pages, describes in detail the final moments of the drama that unfolded over Belgrade, writes Blic.
Shortly before the crash, pilot Omer Mehić communicated with the air traffic controller, who informed him that he was at the beginning of the runway and could land. But as he began to descend the aircraft, he said: 'I don't see the runway, I don't see it.'
'You are on the runway. Descend freely,' the operator repeated. The pilot, however, again failed to land the helicopter and decided: 'We are climbing.'
According to the report, the aircraft accelerated and reached an altitude of 250 meters. The sudden ascent and acceleration first caused the helicopter to veer to the left, after which it suddenly turned to the right side and began to fall.
It was also determined that the helicopter was technically sound and had enough fuel for more than an hour of flight. According to the expert's findings, the weather conditions were complex that night, but they were not decisive for the tragedy.
