A Treat for Basketball Gourmets: Numerous Records Broken at the All-Star Game

(Patria) - At the 73rd NBA All-Star Game, held in Indianapolis, the East defeated the West with a score of 211-186.

New records were set last night for the total number of points and the number of points scored by a single team, writes Gol.hr.

After the All-Star Game was played for several years with two players named captains who then selected their teams, the league, in an effort to make this matchup more competitive again, returned to the old system of a duel between the two conferences.

However, instead of competitive basketball, all players once again focused solely on offense, resulting in a large number of records being broken.

Thus, the East became the first team to score over 200 points, stopping at 211, and breaking the eight-year-old record set by the West by as many as 15 points.

With a total of 397 points, this matchup surpassed the previous most efficient All-Star Game played seven years ago by 23 points.

The defeated West scored 186 points, which is the fourth-highest number of points scored by a team in All-Star history and, of course, the highest number of points scored by a losing team.

Already in the first half, the teams combined for 193 points, which at that moment was the most efficient first half in history, only to score 204 in the second half and further increase the record.

The East set a record for the number of points scored in a half with 104 points in the first half, only to surpass it in the second half when they scored 107.

The East achieved victory primarily through excellent three-point shooting, hitting 42 out of 97 long-range attempts.

Milwaukee Bucks player Damian Lillard led the way with 11 three-pointers and a total of 39 points, earning him the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award for the game.

Jaylen Brown of the Boston Celtics added 36, and home player Tyrese Haliburton of the Indiana Pacers scored 32 for the winners.

The West, on the other hand, had the most effective player of the duel in their ranks - Karl Anthony Towns of the Minnesota Timberwolves scored 50, while Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder added 31.

Veteran LeBron James, 39, who made his 20th All-Star appearance, further extending the record he already holds, said after the game what was actually most important:

"It's good that nobody got hurt tonight."
