War-time NSRS MPs to receive 1,200 KM monthly!

Members of the first convocation of the National Assembly of Republika Srpska could soon be entitled to a monthly allowance of one and a half times the average monthly salary, or about 1,200 KM, according to banjaluka.net, as reported by the Patria news agency.

According to the draft law on the rights of elected representatives of Republika Srpska from the period 1991 to 1996, submitted to the parliamentary procedure yesterday by President Milorad Dodik, all members of the first convocation of the Republika Srpska assembly will have the right to this allowance.

The draft law, which will be considered at the parliament session starting September 15, grants this right to all MPs who served in the Parliament from October 24, 1991, when the first multi-party assembly of the then SR BiH was constituted, until September 14, 1996, when the first convocation of the Republika Srpska Assembly was dissolved, ahead of the first post-war elections.

According to the law, the monthly allowance should equal one and a half times the average net salary from the previous year. If the law gets the green light, MPs from the first convocation would receive about 1,200 KM per month on this basis.

According to the proposer's estimates, this would cost taxpayers about 2.1 million KM annually.

As stated in the draft law, after the beneficiary's death, the right to the monetary allowance would pass to the spouse and children.

As noted, the right to this allowance "can also be exercised by a person who, through their work, dedication, and special merits in the said period, participated in the creation of Republika Srpska and its institutions."
