A message of faith after defeat: Bajraktarević quoted Surah Al-Anfal

(Patria) - After Bosnia and Herzegovina's defeat to Switzerland at the World Cup, national team player Esmir Bajraktarević posted on Instagram quoting a verse from Surah Al-Anfal of the Quran.

"And when the disbelievers plotted against you to imprison, kill, or expel you – they planned, and Allah planned, and Allah is the best of planners," the verse reads.

This verse speaks of the trials faced by the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, and carries the message that, despite human plans and difficulties, the final outcome remains in God's hands. It is often cited as a reminder of patience, perseverance, and faith in a better outcome after difficult moments in life.

Surah Al-Anfal, which translates to "The Spoils of War," is the eighth chapter of the Quran. It largely discusses the Battle of Badr, community unity, facing challenges, and relying on God in difficult circumstances.

Bajraktarević's post came immediately after the Dragons' defeat to Switzerland and can be interpreted as a message of hope and faith that one failure does not determine the final outcome of the path ahead for the Bosnia and Herzegovina national team.
