Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin are equally responsible for the start of World War II, as they wanted to divide Europe, states Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, reports the Patria news agency.
- Hitler, together with Stalin, initiated bloody conflicts, and then they tried to divide and conquer Europe, Poroshenko stated at a wreath-laying ceremony at the Bykivnia cemetery, near Kyiv, in the presence of Polish President Bronisław Komorowski.
Poroshenko's speech came on the same day that the Verkhovna Rada decided to adopt a law equating communism and Nazism and condemning all activities of the followers of these regimes in Ukraine.
- It is time to get rid of Soviet clichés..., said the leader of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance, Volodymyr Viatrovych, in parliament.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov reacted to these developments in Ukraine, merely stating that he regretted Kyiv's official behavior.
