Families Don't Lose Hope: Hadžići Residents Still Searching for 73 Missing Fellow Citizens

(Patria) - The Day of the Missing in Hadžići was marked today in front of the Central Memorial in Hadžići.

Organized by the Municipality and the Association for Searching for Captured and Missing Persons from Hadžići, tribute was paid to all victims who were taken to an unknown location in 1992 from Serb camps during the Chetnik aggression against the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

In 2026, 73 persons of Bosniak and Croatian nationality from the Hadžići municipality, aged between 19 and 70, are still being searched for.

The largest number of Bosniaks disappeared at the end of May 1992, when the municipality's territory was under the control of the so-called Army of Republika Srpska.

During the aggression against the sovereign and internationally recognized Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina (1992-1995), war crimes were committed against the civilian population in the Hadžići area, primarily against Bosniaks, with around 250 people taken and killed.

A public appeal was made from today's commemoration to all persons who have information about who, when, and how Bosniaks were taken to camps and ultimately to their deaths, to come forward and testify before domestic courts.

A special appeal was made in the case of the trial of war criminal Zoran Gašović before the court in Montenegro.

The families of the missing still do not lose hope that the remains of their loved ones will be found and buried with dignity.

It is a painful fact that the efforts of the Prosecutor's Office and the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina continue to yield no expected results.
