Flowers laid and tribute paid to fallen defenders of Sarajevo

(Patria) - As part of the commemoration of the 34th anniversary of the Battle for the Defense of the Presidency of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Presidency of BiH, the Assembly, and the Government of Sarajevo Canton organized a flower-laying ceremony held at the Kovači Martyrs' Cemetery.

A special address, tribute, and laying of flowers were held for the Bosnian martyrs and for the first President of the Republic of BiH, Alija Izetbegović.

Among those present were, among others, delegations from the Presidency of BiH, the Mayor of Stari Grad Municipality Sarajevo Irfan Čengić, Minister for Veterans' Affairs Omer Osmanović, Mayor of Sarajevo Samir Avdić, and numerous others.

Mayor of Sarajevo Samir Avdić stated that the significance of May 2nd is special for Bosnia and Herzegovina and for the city of Sarajevo because the state was defended. 

The Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton, Nihad Uk, also addressed the attendees, telling the media on this occasion that May 2nd is one of the most significant dates in the history of BiH, the day when one of the key battles took place that prevented Sarajevo from being cut off.

The Cantonal Minister for Veterans' Affairs, Omer Osmanović, also addressed the attendees.

"Our special unit stood in defense of the Presidency along with all the patriots who were in the city at the time," Osmanović said, among other things, reports Slobodna Bosna.
