Political U-Turn or Populism: Deljković Voted Against February 1 as the Day of Sarajevo's Founding

(Patria) - Councillors of the Stari Grad Sarajevo Municipality rejected adopting a Resolution to declare February 1 as the official day of Sarajevo's founding. The proposers of this agenda item were councillors from the SDA Club and the Party for Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The initiative was duly sent seven days before the session, but it was not included as an agenda item, so the councillors insisted on voting on this initiative.
In the end, only 10 councillors from SDA, SBiH, and NES supported this initiative, while 10 remained abstaining, including councillors from SDP, and six votes were against, including councillors from NIP, DF, and Our Party.

This voting outcome is surprising because it was precisely NIP in the City Council of Sarajevo that initiated a similar initiative, which was also supported by DF's Vedad Deljković, who today called on the DF Club not to support this initiative.

We remind you, Jasmin Ademović (NiP), Chairman of the Sarajevo City Council, and councillor Vedad Deljković (DF), submitted a Proposal for a Decision on February 1 as the day of Sarajevo's founding to the City Council.

Due to a series of public reactions, they later addressed the public, emphasizing that 'marking the date of the city's founding in no way derogates, changes, or calls into question the marking of April 6, the Day of the City of Sarajevo.'

Today, Deljković voted against a similar initiative at the session of the Stari Grad Municipal Council, which came as a surprise to the vast majority of councillors.
