On the occasion of the upcoming Kurban Bayram, veterinary inspectors of the Cantonal Administration for Inspection Affairs of the Sarajevo Canton have been carrying out increased inspection supervision of the trade in small and large livestock at the livestock market in Bojnik since September 16, 2015, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria.
During the day-long inspections, inspectors check whether owners possess the mandatory health certificate for animals issued by the competent veterinary station, as well as whether the animals are vaccinated against brucellosis and properly marked with ear tags. In addition, on the first and second day of Kurban Bayram, as every year, inspectors will perform a veterinary health examination during the slaughter of the kurban, which will be organized by the Rijaset of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina on the estate of the Gazi Husrev-bey Madrasa.
- In order to avoid the risk of infectious diseases, we recommend that citizens purchase kurban from owners with proper documentation on the health and origin of the animal. We also advise that the slaughter of the kurban be carried out in registered slaughterhouses under the supervision of the veterinary inspection, after which the competent inspector will issue an appropriate certificate of meat safety.
We remind that the gathering and trade of animals can only be carried out in places or facilities that possess veterinary health approval from the Ministry of Economy of the Sarajevo Canton and that are under the supervision of the veterinary inspection, which at this moment is only the livestock market in Bojnik. For any illegal gathering, i.e., illegal trade in kurban, inspectors will take measures prescribed by law.
