(Patria) - Despite Bosnia and Herzegovina's heavy defeat to Switzerland (1:4) last night in the second round of the World Cup group stage, one detail from Los Angeles sparks optimism among Zmajevi fans.

It concerns young Ermin Mahmić, who in just a few minutes on the pitch managed to win the sympathies of the Bosnian public with a spectacular goal in stoppage time.

Mahmić entered the game in the very closing stages, and in the 93rd minute showed why many consider him one of the greatest talents in Bosnian football.

After a corner, the ball bounced to the edge of the penalty area, and the young midfielder, without hesitation, powerfully struck the ball into Gregor Kobel's net, scoring his first goal for the senior national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

His goal did not go unnoticed in Austria, the country where he was born. The Austrian portal Laola particularly highlighted the goal of the young national team player.

"With the score at 3:0, in the 93rd minute the ball came to Mahmić after a corner, who did not hesitate and struck it powerfully. It was his first goal for the senior national team of Bosnia and Herzegovina," reports Laola.

This media outlet recalls that Mahmić only recently made the final decision to play for Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The young footballer was still playing for Austria's U-21 national team against Belgium in March, while in May he officially decided that he would wear the jersey of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the future.

Mahmić left Austrian club SV Lafnitz last summer and continued his career at Czech side Slovan Liberec, where he continues his development.

Although he is only 19 years old and has just a few appearances for the senior national team, Mahmić's goal against Switzerland has caused delight among Zmajevi fans.

Many believe that he has shown he could have an important role in the future of the BiH national team, and calls for him to receive more playing time in upcoming matches are growing louder.

Whether that will happen against Qatar remains a decision for Sergej Barbarez, but one thing is certain - Mahmić drew attention to himself in Los Angeles and showed that a very bright international future could lie ahead of him.
