(Patria) - The night behind us brought sad news - Hadži Pašina Mosque, an architectural gem of Brčko, burned down in a fire.
The chief imam of the Islamic Community Council of Brčko, Dr. Mustafa-ef. Gobeljić, stated for MINA Agency that the fire occurred after midnight last night, and its causes are still unknown. Investigative bodies are doing their part, and official information is expected soon.
However, his message of gratitude to all who selflessly engaged during the night, as well as to those who have already expressed readiness to help rebuild the mosque, testifies to the breadth of support and solidarity.
- We express our gratitude to the local authorities, primarily the professional fire brigade, which was on the scene in record time and made maximum efforts to preserve the building in its current form, and of course to the police of Brčko District, who were present the entire time.
The broad support we have encountered today from various levels, primarily from the Islamic Community and the Tuzla Mufti's office, is encouraging.
Our mufti Vahid-ef. Fazlović was here today. He initiated the convening of an extraordinary session of the Executive Board, which he chaired.
The head of the Islamic Community, Husein-ef. Kavazović, also called us, expressed his regret and shared our sorrow, but also expressed the readiness of the Islamic Community's leadership to be maximally involved in the reconstruction of this valuable religious building for us - states Gobeljić.
Hadži Pašina Mosque is not only a loss for the Islamic Community in terms of its functionality, but also in terms of its architectural value.
- It was a building of ambient significance and one of the architectural gems of this city. However, God willing, just as we rebuilt it once after its destruction during the war, we will rebuild it again after this unfortunate, sad event - says efendija Gobeljić.
Support and readiness to financially assist in the mosque's reconstruction have been expressed by several other levels of government.
- We can say that, when it comes to state institutions, the Government of Brčko District is at the forefront, which has promised significant assistance for the mosque's reconstruction.
This is a great loss, a sad morning, a sad day, for the Islamic Community Council of Brčko, all members of Islam in this area, and for all good people in this area.
Many people from these neighborhoods were emotionally attached to Hadži Pašina Mosque, and of course, it is a devastating event for all of us. We have already had several initiatives from local entrepreneurs who have expressed their readiness to participate in the mosque's reconstruction - stated Gobeljić.
The investigation lasted throughout the day, and after official information about the cause of the fire is released, the clearing of the remains will begin, in order to remove anything that could endanger people.
- We will very quickly prepare a preliminary budget of the financial resources necessary for the mosque's reconstruction. With this estimate, we will approach various institutions to collect funds as soon as possible and to begin the reconstruction of Hadži Pašina Mosque as soon as weather conditions permit - added chief imam Gobeljić.
Hadži Pašina Mosque was built in the first half of the 19th century with funds from Hadži Paša Mujkanović, a refugee from Šabac.
The mosque was identical to Dizdarija Mosque, which was built by his brother Hadži Dizdar Mujkanović in the center of Brčko.
During the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina, it was mined and demolished, and it was rebuilt in 2011.
