Owner of English Millwall dies

(Patria) - Owner and president of the English football club Millwall John Berylson (70) died in a tragic accident, the club announced on its pages, without providing details.

Berylson, who was born in Boston, is survived by his wife Amy and children Jennifer, James, and Elizabeth.

"It is with broken hearts and the deepest regret that we announce the death of our beloved owner and president John Berylson.

He was a truly great man, incredibly devoted to his family and a person of such incredible generosity, warmth, and kindness.

He lived a rich life, full of colour and joy. Under John's passionate leadership, Millwall Football Club has achieved great success and stability," the club from The Den stadium announced.

The American businessman first got involved with the Championship club based in southeast London in 2006. He took over after the club was relegated to the third division, and in recent years, Millwall has been a regular participant in the Championship, the second tier of English football.

"The EFL is shocked and saddened by this news and extends its deepest condolences to John's family and everyone connected with Millwall," the English Football League announced on Twitter.

Former Millwall defender Alan Dunne, who made almost 350 appearances for the club, also commented.

"My deepest condolences, not just to my long-time president, but also to a friend," Dunne announced, reports Hina.
