Support for Srebrenica from around the world: We remember every day, one day we don't forget

(Patria) - We remember every day, one day we don't forget, is a simple message from the Srebrenica Memorial Center, which in the last two months has become recognizable and clear around the world, among individuals, organizations, and institutions supporting the adoption of the UN General Assembly Resolution on the Genocide in Srebrenica.

- We have done everything we could in the last two months to do more to talk about the genocide in Srebrenica in communities around the world, both online and in person. The Resolution spurred us to do so, and the very discussion about it has led to more people in the world knowing about the genocide in Srebrenica today than was the case a few months ago.

The entire discussion was an opportunity to talk more about the consequences of the genocide in eastern Bosnia, to recognize the activities of the Mothers of Srebrenica and the Srebrenica Memorial Center, to present our programmatic recommendations for access to education about the genocide at universities, and in secondary and primary schools, to share the results of numerous studies with the world - said the spokesperson for the Srebrenica Memorial Center, Almasa Salihović.

The Memorial Center reports that they have recorded over 9,000 media articles about the genocide in Srebrenica from April 1st to date worldwide, which is an indicator of the achieved goals of the awareness campaign.

- I take this opportunity to thank the media, numerous journalists and editors who were interested in the topic, who followed with us which countries supported the Resolution, which gave space to the victims' families to speak, who knew it was important to focus on facts, researchers, education, and not on genocide deniers and those who spread hatred.

We have proven together that the establishment of the International Day of Remembrance of the Genocide in Srebrenica is not a threat to anyone, but an opportunity for future generations to learn from the lessons of Srebrenica - concluded Salihović.

The Srebrenica Memorial Center actively advocated for support of the Resolution through direct communication with more than 40 partner organizations from around the world, informing UN member states, and at least 35 online and live discussions in which representatives of this institution spoke about the Resolution.

Their messages via social networks were seen by more than two million users. All this time, they were exposed to numerous threats, hate speech, and attacks from genocide deniers.
