(Patria) - Today in Germany, the European Handball Championship begins, with the first two matches to be played at a football stadium.
The host of the first two matches between France and North Macedonia, and Germany and Switzerland, will be the football stadium 'Merkur Spiel-Arena', which will be transformed into a huge handball arena for just those two matches and the opening ceremony. According to German media, more than 50,000 fans are expected to be in the stands of this venue.
Thus, the old record set almost ten years ago, also in Germany, when 44,189 fans watched the match between Rhein-Neckar Löwen and Hamburg in Frankfurt, will go down in history.
After the first round, the matches of Group A will be played in another excellent venue – the 'Mercedes-Benz Arena' in Berlin.
The handball team of Bosnia and Herzegovina will play in Group E against the teams of Sweden, the Netherlands and Georgia, seeking their historic first victory at the gatherings of the best European teams.
At the previous two European Championships, our team suffered all defeats, and this year they will have the opportunity to finally record a win, given that Georgia is a "suitable" opponent.
The first match for the Bosnia and Herzegovina handball players is on Thursday, 11 January, against favourites Sweden.
