Start of school year brings changes in traffic

(Patria) - As the new school year approaches, the holiday season is ending for many citizens. Queues at border crossings are still present, but it is expected that by the end of September they will become less frequent and shorter. Current waiting times for passenger vehicles range between 10 and 30 minutes.

The first signs of summer's end in traffic are already visible – fog in the early morning and evening hours reduces visibility, while landslides are becoming more frequent on roads, especially after recent rains that followed a long period of high temperatures.

Roadworks are still ongoing on several sections, including the A1 motorway Podlugovi – Sarajevo North, and the main roads Semizovac – Olovo, Jablanica – Prozor (Mirci), and Posušje – GP Osoje. It is reminded that on the Jablanica – Blidinje section, traffic is allowed only for vehicles up to 3.5 tons.

At border crossings, drivers are advised to monitor the situation via video surveillance cameras on the website www.bihamk.ba, as waiting times are subject to frequent changes.

A special regime applies at the Karakaj border crossing near Zvornik, where traffic is banned for vehicles heavier than 5 tons. Freight traffic is redirected to the Bratunac or Rača crossings, while buses may use the Šepak crossing. At this crossing, freight vehicles may operate only between 09:00 and 13:00 and between 22:00 and 06:00, while on weekends crossing is allowed only during the night period (22:00 – 06:00).
