Reconstruction of the main city road from Skenderija has begun

(Patria) - Works on the main city road from Skenderija to Vječna vatra began this morning, and the Minister of Transport Adnan Šteta, along with representatives of the KS Roads Directorate and the contractor Strabag, visited the start of the works.

The total length of the road to be reconstructed is approximately 2.8 kilometers, and today works began on the first phase, from Skenderija to the Ćumurija bridge, a length of 1,080 meters.

“This is a major project, which is particularly challenging due to traffic organization. An average of about 34,000 vehicles pass through this road daily, but its reconstruction is necessary due to its poor condition, as well as for the safety of all road users,” emphasized Minister Šteta.

At the very beginning of the project, works will be carried out on the left side of the road, and traffic will flow in two lanes, the middle and the right. The public will be informed in a timely manner about all changes.

It is expected that the works on the first phase from Skenderija to Ćumurija will be completed by the end of this year, if everything goes according to plan.

“Sidewalks on both sides will be reconstructed and adapted to tram stops, so that everything is accessible to persons with disabilities. Works will be carried out both at night and during the day, depending on weather conditions, and works will not be carried out during the SFF and important events for Sarajevo, in order to reduce potential traffic jams,” added Minister Šteta.

The project envisages the complete reconstruction of the road and sidewalks on both sides.

“I expect maximum effort from all involved parties, because we all know what it means to reconstruct the main road. We believe that we will successfully implement this project for the benefit of all citizens of our canton,” concluded Minister Šteta.

In addition to the reconstruction of the road and sidewalks, new curbs will be installed along the entire length, the drainage system will be improved, new vertical traffic signage will be installed, and new horizontal traffic signage made of plastic material will be painted. New rubber insulation for tram rails will also be installed.
