(Patria) - Minister of Foreign Affairs of BiH Elmedin Konaković was in Zadar today where, together with the Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Croatia Gordan Grlić Radman, he officially opened the Honorary Consulate of BiH.
In his address to those present, Konaković emphasized that this act represents an important step in deepening bilateral relations and confirms the trust and friendship between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Republic of Croatia.
He particularly highlighted the symbolism of opening the consulate precisely in Zadar - a city that has historically been a meeting place for people, ideas, and cultures.
He reminded that citizens living and working in Croatia represent the strongest bridge between the two countries, stressing that the consulate is not just an institution, but also a space for support, new ideas, partnerships, and initiatives.
He pointed to the strong economic ties between BiH and Croatia, noting that Croatia is one of our key investors and foreign trade partners.
He added that the growing presence of BiH companies in Croatia confirms that our economic ties are evolving into a partnership based on mutual interest and long-term development.
He particularly emphasized the importance of the new Law on Foreigners in Croatia, as well as resolving the issue of D visas for professional drivers from BiH, which represents an important step for the transport and logistics sector, but also an example of how through joint dialogue we can find practical and sustainable solutions.
He thanked Croatia for its consistent support for Bosnia and Herzegovina's European path, stressing that such support contributes not only to the progress of our country but also to a more stable and prosperous region.
Konaković extended congratulations to the newly appointed honorary consul of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Zadar, Snježana Köpruner, emphasizing that her previous work and engagement represent an example of vision, responsibility, and dedication to the community.
He expressed confidence that with the same energy and commitment she will successfully perform this important duty as well, wishing her much success.
After the ceremony, Konaković held a bilateral meeting with Minister Grlić Radman.
Discussions were held on further improvement of cooperation and joint projects of importance for both countries, such as the Southern Gas Interconnection project, which envisions connecting the gas systems of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia, and is of key importance for the energy security of our country and the wider region.
The challenges posed by the new border system (Entry/Exit System) were also considered, and the need to find practical and sustainable solutions in cooperation with European institutions was emphasized, in order to avoid congestion, facilitate entry, and ensure continuity of regional connectivity and mobility.
The interlocutors also discussed concrete progress made in the past period, including the Agreement on Border Crossings, which is in the final phase of adoption before signing, and which will contribute to better connectivity, faster flow of people and goods, and strengthening economic and tourism cooperation.
During the meeting, the political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region was also discussed, with a special focus on security challenges.
Konaković emphasized the importance of cooperation with international partners, preserving the full role of the OHR, and electing a future High Representative who understands the complexity of BiH and remains committed to the stability, peace, and European perspective of the country.
Grlić Radman reiterated that Croatia strongly supports the European path of Bosnia and Herzegovina and is ready to continue providing political, diplomatic, and expert support in the process of European integration, emphasizing the importance of maintaining the dynamics of reforms in the areas of rule of law, judiciary, and functioning of institutions.
