Suspects arrested for genocide on Prosecutor's Office order

(Patria) - Police officers of the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA), on the order of a prosecutor from the Special Department for War Crimes, in the area of Zvornik, Šekovići, Han Pijesak, Vlasenica and Bileća, have arrested several individuals suspected of the crime of genocide, committed in July 1995, after the fall of the UN Protected Area of Srebrenica.

The suspects are former commanders and members of the VRS, and they are charged with participating in the capture and murder of approximately 70 victims, Bosniak men and boys, as well as one woman, on July 15, 19, and 23, 1995, at the Jarovlje location in Vlasenica and two locations in the Bišina-Šekovići area, after which they organized machinery and carried out activities to remove the bodies of the murdered.

The suspects are charged with the criminal offense of genocide under Article 171 of the Criminal Code of BiH. The Prosecutor's Office of BiH and partner police agencies are continuing activities aimed at identifying other individuals involved in committing these crimes.

The arrested suspects will be brought to the acting prosecutor who will decide on further actions in the case after questioning the suspects.
