Swimmers from Zagreb's Spid bring home seven medals, Barlov and Zulfić heading to World Championship

(Patria) - Members of the Swimming Club Spid from Sarajevo have once again adorned themselves with medals at the competition held in Zagreb.

They won a total of seven medals at the 14th meeting "Zagreb para swimming open 2023" and the 4th Open Team Championship of Croatia held over the weekend.

Ismail Barlov, a para-swimming representative of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the first BH athlete to achieve the standard for participation in the Paralympic Games in Paris next year, shone in the Croatian capital with four won medals. Barlov won one gold and one bronze medal, and two silver medals. Next month, he will compete at the World Championship in Manchester.

Coach Ilda Kukuruzović said that the five-member team had 19 starts, of which they broke 16 personal records and won a total of seven medals.

"We returned to Sarajevo with one gold, four silver and two bronze medals in the absolute category," she said.

BH representatives also won the trophy for third place in the women's category in the team standings among 12 teams.

Coach Kukuruzović emphasizes that Barlov and Ismail Zulfić are starting preparations for the World Senior Para Swimming Championship in Manchester.

Ismail Barlov will compete in Great Britain in the 150 medley and 50 meters breaststroke events, while Ismail Zulfić will compete in the 50 meters butterfly event.

In Zagreb, Elmedina Đocaj won silver, Kanita Šabanović bronze, Ismail Zulfić silver, and the team also included Ahmed Mašetić. The coaching duo also included Amra Arapović.

The meeting featured 120 swimmers from 17 clubs and national teams from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, Serbia, and Croatia.
