SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Platform for Progress calls on all representatives in the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina to, in accordance with their authority to propose constitutional and legal solutions, proposals, and initiatives, first propose and support the deletion of Article IX, Paragraph 2) of the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and then initiate the drafting of a new Law on Salaries and Allowances in the Institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina that will be proportionate to the current social situation in our country.
"Namely, the controversial Article IX, Paragraph 2) of the current BiH Constitution reads as follows: 'Article IX 2. The compensation for persons performing functions in the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina cannot be reduced during the term of office of the officeholder. 3. Officials appointed to positions in the institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina shall, as a rule, reflect the ethnic composition of Bosnia and Herzegovina'", stated the Platform for Progress press release.
It is added that the main reason for submitting this initiative is the current excessively high monthly incomes of elected officials in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which are certainly not in line with the average income, and especially not with the minimum income and minimum pensions of citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
"An additional reason is that the justifications for introducing this provision into the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina may have made sense in 1995, but now there is no sensible justification or explanation for such a provision. Platform for Progress is submitting this proposal in electronic form to the addresses of all public and private media outlets in BiH, as well as to the addresses of 42 representatives in the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina. We call on the people's representatives to act quickly and responsibly on this issue, and the media to carefully monitor their reaction or lack thereof and to inform the public about it in detail", the press release adds.
They call on the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, both at home and in the diaspora, to send this or a similar initiative to the addresses of all representatives in the House of Representatives of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which are available at the following link: http://parlament.ba/representative/list .
