(Patria) - Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina Elmedin Konaković met with the Special Envoy of the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (UK) for the Western Balkans, Karen Pierce, who is on an official visit to BiH.
The two discussed the current political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the meeting was also attended by British Ambassador Julian Reilly.
"As a long-standing friend and ally, the United Kingdom has reaffirmed its strong support for BiH's sovereignty and territorial integrity," stated the BiH Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The British Ambassador announced that a meeting was also held with religious leaders and civil society representatives.
"Everyone has an important role in building trust with and between communities, ensuring that BiH is a stable, secure, and prosperous country that responds to the needs of its citizens," Reilly stated.
"I am visiting Bosnia and Herzegovina at a time of political crisis. It is important to emphasize that Bosnia and Herzegovina has the institutions and mechanisms to respond to this crisis. An early domestic solution will enable further progress on this country's path towards the European Union. On our part, the United Kingdom will continue to support Bosnia and Herzegovina in fulfilling its Euro-Atlantic aspirations,” stated Lady Karen Pierce.
This autumn, the United Kingdom will host the Berlin Process summit with Western Balkan leaders to support stability, security, and economic cooperation in the region. Lady Karen Pierce discussed the goals and implementation of the summit with Amer Kapetanović, Secretary General of the Regional Cooperation Council, a key partner in this process.
During her visit, Special Envoy Lady Karen Pierce also met with human rights activists, journalists, and project partners with whom the United Kingdom is working on numerous issues for the benefit of the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina. At the meeting with leaders and representatives of the largest religious communities in BiH, she encouraged them to work together on de-escalating the political crisis and building trust between communities: preserving peace and stability in BiH is most important, it was announced from the Embassy of Great Britain.
