Ljubomir Ljupko Petrović, an experienced and trophy-winning football coach, is the new head of the professional staff of FK Sarajevo, confirmed Abdulah Ibraković, the club's sports director from Koševo, to the BH news agency Patria. Ibraković stated that Petrović signed a contract for a year and a half a few moments ago.
- Sarajevo has gained a coach with world experience and a great expert. I believe this move will be key in our fight for the title, which FK Sarajevo is not giving up on - Ibraković told us. Petrović gave an exclusive statement to NAP earlier today.
- You see, Sarajevo has always been a great club, even when I played during the time of former Yugoslavia. You are very fair, so I will be too. I am heading to Sarajevo soon, and right now I am sitting in my apartment drinking coffee. I received a call, and we just need to clarify a few minor details, and that's it – Petrović told NAP.
He further stated that he has already studied Sarajevo's game in detail and that it is evident that the team and the players are good.
- What do you think, can we pass Zrinjski in the Cup? I think we can – said Petrović, adding that Sarajevo is the capital of BiH and that quality football has always been played there. Petrović was also a candidate for the coach of the BiH national team when Safet Sušić was chosen. His greatest coaching achievement is winning the Champions Cup with Crvena Zvezda in 1991.
In his career, Petrović has coached, among others, Espanjol, Osijek, Olympiakos, GAK, Levski, Litex, OFK Beograd, and Lokomotiva Zagreb. His last engagement was at FC Tarez.
