Five candidates in the race for APIK Director: Bašić, Pošković, Pilica, Halep, and Pilav

(Patria) - The Commission for Election and Monitoring of the Work of the Agency for Prevention of Corruption and Coordination of Fight against Corruption (APIK) held its 6th session today, at which it considered the applications received for the Public Call for the Appointment of the Director of the Agency for Prevention of Corruption and Coordination of Fight against Corruption.

Five applications were received for the call published in May, which the Commission opened today. As Patria learns, Elvir Pilav, Hajro Pošković, Jasmin Pilica, Alen Halep, and Emir Bašić want the position of APIK Director.

Interestingly, Bašić is the current director of the Federal Agency for Management of Confiscated Property, while Halep is an employee of APIK. Pilica is the coordinator for legal affairs in the audit department of the Office of the Auditor General of BiH institutions and a former director of the Police Support Agency. Pošković is a long-time deputy director of the HJPC Secretariat, whose term expires in 2026. Elvir Pilav is a law graduate.

Now follows the verification of candidates, in the Central Election Commission (CIK) and the State Investigation and Protection Agency (SIPA).
The Commission will conduct interviews with the candidates, after which it will rank them. The appointment of the APIK Director must pass both houses of the BiH Parliament.

This position has been vacant since the resignation of Elvis Kondžić in October 2024, who was dismissed from the position of Director of the Agency for Prevention of Corruption and Coordination of Fight against Corruption at a session of the House of Peoples of the BiH Parliament in November, and in the House of Representatives of the BiH Parliament in early December 2024.

The call for the APIK Director was published only in May, and the entire procedure was clearly delayed. The Commission for Election and Monitoring of the Work of APIK also did not convene, so before today, the last session was held in May.

APIK was managed by deputies Damirka Mioč and Rade Ristović.

The position of APIK Director belongs to the quota of directors to be filled by candidates from the Bosniak people.
