Peskov confirms: Trilateral talks on Wednesday and Thursday in Abu Dhabi

(Patria) - A new round of negotiations to end the war in Ukraine, with US mediation, is expected to be held this week, despite ongoing fighting on the battlefield and deadly long-range attacks.

A high-ranking Kremlin official confirmed today that the talks will be held after a short postponement, reports AP.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed that the trilateral talks will be held on Wednesday and Thursday in Abu Dhabi, where the previous meeting was also held last month.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated yesterday that he would send a delegation to the meeting, which was originally scheduled for the weekend but was postponed due to, as Peskov said, scheduling conflicts.

The Trump administration has encouraged both sides to find a compromise over the past year. However, as the fourth anniversary of the Russian invasion approaches later this month, resolving key contentious issues does not seem any closer.

Peskov described the negotiations as "very complex".

"We have certainly moved closer on some issues because they have been discussed, making it easier to find common ground. There are also issues on which it is more difficult to achieve this," Peskov told reporters.

Russian presidential envoy Kirill Dmitriev was in Miami, Florida over the weekend for talks with US officials, but Peskov declined to provide details about that meeting.

A key obstacle is the question of whether Russia will retain Ukrainian territory occupied by its military, especially in the industrial heartland of the east. Moscow also claims other Ukrainian territories it has failed to capture.

Meanwhile, Russian drones and missiles continued to target civilian areas. Yesterday, 12 miners on a bus were killed in the latest mass air attack.

The attacks also destroyed Ukraine's power grid, leaving residents without heating, electricity, and running water in the midst of a harsh winter.

Ukrainian Minister of Defense Mykhailo Fedorov stated today that authorities are taking steps to prevent Russia from using Starlink satellite services to guide its drones to targets.

Fedorov asked Elon Musk's company SpaceX to help deny Russia the use of this service in Ukraine. Starlink is a global internet network that relies on about 10,000 satellites in Earth's orbit.

Fedorov explained that Ukraine requires civilian and military Starlink users to register their terminals in a database. This would enable approved devices to function, while unregistered terminals within Ukraine would be disabled.

"It seems the steps we have taken to prevent Russia from unauthorized use of Starlink have been successful. Let us know if anything else needs to be done," Musk posted yesterday on social media platform X.
