Peršić: Separation and distance are the greatest expressions of love and care for others during the coronavirus pandemic

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - In the Federation of BiH during the past 24 hours, 480 people were tested, and 36 tested positive for COVID-19, said Zlatan Peršić, expert advisor for public relations at the Federal Ministry of Health, at a regular press conference.

"So far, a total of 5800 tests have been performed in the Federation of BiH, and the coronavirus has been confirmed in 561 people. By gender structure, about 54 percent are women, and almost 46 percent are men. The highest number of cases are in HNK 193, TK 81, ZHK 68, KS 62, ZDK and USK 49, SBK 26, Canton 10 22, BPK eight, and three cases in Posavina Canton," added Peršić. 

By cities, the number of cases: Čitluk 71, Mostar 64, Sarajevo 51, Tuzla 49, and Široki Brijeg 48. 

"Currently, 72 patients are hospitalized, of which nine are on ventilators. Compared to the previous day, we have seven new recoveries, and a total of 36 people have recovered so far, and we expect an increase in the number of recoveries. So far, 22 deaths have been recorded, and more than 63 percent of the deceased are over 65 years of age," says Peršić. 

He adds that social distancing and the work of epidemiologists in the field have led to a slowdown in the growth of the number of cases. 

"Regardless of the nice weather, we appeal again to citizens not to gather outside, but also not in houses, because that contributes to the spread of the virus. As paradoxical as it may sound, separation and physical distance in these times are an expression of togetherness, love, and care for others," added Peršić and congratulated citizens of Catholic faith on Easter. 

When asked about the effectiveness of disinfecting public surfaces and the danger of virus transmission from the street, Peršić says that enhanced hygiene of public surfaces is desirable, as is moderate disinfection. 

"The most important thing in this is targeted disinfection of spaces and facilities where many people gather. All disinfection that is carried out should be done according to regulations, so that there are no harmful consequences," concluded Peršić.
