(Patria) - In a letter to colleagues, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced that Congressional leaders have decided to continue the joint session to confirm the victory of President-elect Joe Biden after the Capitol "is cleared for use".
"In consultation with Leader Hoyer and Whip Clyburn and after a call to the Pentagon, the Department of Justice and the Vice President, we have decided to reconvene in the Capitol tonight when it is cleared for use. Leader Hoyer will send further guidance later today," Pelosi said.
Trump supporters entered the Capitol as lawmakers were preparing to confirm the results of the November 3, 2020 elections, which Joe Biden won, which was supposed to be a routine procedure before Inauguration Day.
Chaotic scenes ensued in Washington after Trump supporters clashed with police, causing further chaos, breaking down doors and windows of the Capitol, and reaching the Senate floor.
