PDP to elect new president, procedure initiated

(Patria) - The Main Board of PDP made a decision today to initiate the procedure for electing a new party president, whose name will be known at a session to be held within the next month.

PDP President Branislav Borenović said that the deadline for applications is December 5 and invited interested individuals from key party structures to run.

Borenović said that the election procedure is led by the Main Board, explaining that the condition for applying is that the candidate must be nominated by at least ten city or municipal boards, or at least 20 percent of the members of the Main Board, reports Srna.

He noted that the president is elected by secret ballot, regardless of whether there will be one or more candidates.

"An Election Commission has been formed today to conduct the entire process, and I expect we will finish everything within the next month," Borenović told reporters in Banja Luka.

He recalled that his second term expired a year ago and that according to the Statute, he has no possibility to run, nor does he wish to, assessing that it is time for some new people.

When asked if he favors any of the candidates, Borenović said that it would be correct and democratic to wait a few weeks to see who the candidates are and who among them will offer the best program.

Borenović believes that now is the right moment for the election of a new president, a historic moment for PDP, and expressed his expectation that the new leadership will know how to respond to the upcoming challenges.
