Partisan Cemetery Desecrated Again: An Attack on Anti-Fascism and Mostar's History

(Patria) - The Partisan Cemetery in Mostar, a masterpiece and one of the most significant anti-fascist monuments in this part of Europe, has been desecrated again, announced federal representative Sanel Kajan (DF).

"Most likely during the past night, on the eve of the commemoration of the Day of the Liberation of Mostar in World War II, knowing that anti-fascists would visit this place, a large Ustasha letter 'U' was painted at the entrance to the memorial complex. The message is clear - an attempt to intimidate and provoke those who cherish the values of anti-fascism," Kajan points out.

What is, however, also a serious and long-standing problem is the fact that the "competent" and "responsible" authorities have not yet discovered who smashed about 700 memorial plaques several years ago, who continuously paints Ustasha and fascist symbols on the walls of the Partisan Cemetery, who persistently attacks the history of Mostar and the civilizational values on which this city was built.

"Mostar was liberated thanks to the anti-fascist struggle. That is a historical fact. And no one can erase that fact with graffiti, hatred, or cowardly night vandalism. It is time for the institutions to do their job. It's been a long time coming! Not declaratively. But concretely and responsibly!" Kajan stated.

He added: "As a federal representative and a resident of Mostar, I call on them to take action. First and foremost, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Herzegovina-Neretva Canton, but also all others who can prevent this neo-Nazi rampage from continuing in Mostar and Bosnia and Herzegovina, and bring the perpetrators to justice and punish them."
