Parliamentarians on Nikšić's request to POSKOK: If it weren't funny, it would be sad

(Patria) - The Government of the Federation of BiH sent a request to the Federal Prosecutor's Office, signed by Prime Minister Nermin Nikšić, asking for clarification on whether the session of the House of Representatives of the Parliament of FBiH, on which his role in the "Munjić and others" case is on the agenda, will jeopardize the integrity of the investigation in that case.

That extraordinary session is scheduled for Friday, November 21, and the only item on the agenda is: "Information on alleged illegal actions of Prime Minister Nermin Nikšić and interference in the work of police bodies of the Federation of BiH".

The session was convened by the Speaker Dragan Mioković, at the initiative of the caucuses of DF, SDA, and SBiH. In this regard, the Government of FBiH sent a request to POSKOK and is seeking clarification from the Chief Federal Prosecutor Munib Halilović.

We asked for comments on such a move by Prime Minister Nikšić from the opposition representatives who signed the request for convening the extraordinary session. Here's what they told us.

Sanel Kajan, DF

In accordance with the provisions of the Rules of Procedure under which this legislative body operates, we requested a session of the Parliament of the Federation of BiH, and it is scheduled for November 21.

We are ready for the session. The public demands answers. It is unheard of for the executive branch to ask the judiciary to prohibit the work of the legislative branch that elects the executive.

Jasmina Bišćević Tokić, SDA

Nikšić should have first asked POSKOK if the appointment of Munjić, which he signed, is in accordance with Article 45 of the Law on Internal Affairs?

The Prime Minister has completely compromised the work of investigative bodies in FBiH and completely devalued the fight against corruption. No one will believe the story about the fight against corruption anymore, and Prime Minister Nikšić is directly responsible for such a situation.

And how much the "Prime Minister's fight against corruption" is corruption itself is best confirmed by the fact that the published messages show that people previously appointed by the Prime Minister to the Anti-Corruption Team are being appointed to public office in a "corrupt manner".

Adisa Kokić-Hinović, SDA

If it weren't funny, it would be sad. At this moment, the Prime Minister remembers the integrity and "concern" for the investigation process? How did the Prime Minister and the participants in the "Spengavanje" affair not have integrity in mind when they engaged in influence peddling and abuse of office?

Remember now? Unheard of. What kind of message is this to the public? Does the Prime Minister think about it? Or is it not important? It is important to protect oneself, or to remain silent, and it will be forgotten. Well, we will not allow it to be forgotten. Simply, enough of the arrogance, insolence, and irresponsibility.

And if the Prime Minister "cares" about the integrity and institutions of the state, he would have already submitted his irrevocable resignation yesterday and disappeared from the political life of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Haris Silajdžić, SBiH

Nikšić's panicked escape from the session is no longer even politics, it is political cowardice. A man installed by suspending the Constitution for 24 hours, without electoral legitimacy, trembles at the mere thought of appearing before parliament.

And then he hides behind a letter to the Prosecutor's Office, as if a piece of paper could hide the fact that he has been avoiding confrontation with representatives and the public for years, as evidenced by his absence from sessions for almost three years.

When the Prime Minister starts pretending that the "discussion will jeopardize the investigation," then we know that the only investigation he is concerned about is the one that will reveal his role in "spengavanjem" the system that is supposed to serve citizens, not the Prime Minister's personal desires.

Let it be clear: a man who came to power by suspending the Constitution, not by the will of the people, naturally shies away from the institution that represents that people. For him, parliament is a mirror in which he sees what he most avoids - his own political illegitimacy.

Unlike him, we do not shy away from any discussions. The session will be held, and this issue will not be swept under the rug, no matter how much the Prime Minister hopes that the truth will silence itself.

Admir Čavalić, SBiH

Parliament is there to open discussions, that is, to ask questions. That is the purpose of this session. We have the mandate of the citizens to do so, especially the House of Representatives as directly elected.

Denying the aforementioned is not in line with democratic principles. Also, parliamentarians are not part of the subject investigation. The Government of FBiH is. So, I see this letter precisely as an example of pressure on the judiciary and obstruction of the investigation.

Mirsad Zaimović, SDA

I think this is an attempt to avoid discussion and to hide things from the public that someone clearly wants to hide. I don't see a problem with holding a session. If there are things that should not be disclosed to the public, a closed session can also be held.
