Palestinian community in BiH: Death penalty for Palestinian prisoners in Israel is a war crime

(Patria) - The Palestinian community in Bosnia and Herzegovina expresses its strongest condemnation of the adoption of the death penalty law for Palestinian prisoners by the Israeli occupation Knesset, which was passed by a parliamentary majority.

This move represents a dangerous and unprecedented escalation and a flagrant violation of the principles of international humanitarian law.

The Palestinian community believes that this law represents a clear violation of the Fourth Geneva Convention, including the protection of persons under occupation and the guarantees of a fair trial, and is in direct contradiction with the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, thereby undermining the entire international legal order.

The Palestinian community in Bosnia and Herzegovina emphasizes that this law represents a war crime in the full sense of the word against Palestinian prisoners, and comes within the framework of systematic policies aimed at legalizing extrajudicial killings and providing legal cover for extra-institutional execution practices carried out by the occupation authorities.

Furthermore, the Palestinian community in Bosnia and Herzegovina warns of the serious consequences of this law, which reflects a dangerous escalation of discriminatory policies, and may lead to increased tensions, instability, and undermine all prospects for achieving a just and comprehensive peace in the region.

The community emphasizes that such targeting of Palestinian prisoners represents a continuation of repressive policies and violations that affect the Palestinian people wherever they are, including the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem, in the context of ongoing attacks and severe violations of civilian rights.

Affirming its full solidarity with Palestinian prisoners, the Palestinian community in Bosnia and Herzegovina calls on the international community, human rights organizations, and humanitarian institutions to assume their legal and moral responsibilities, and to take urgent and effective measures to stop this dangerous law, hold the Israeli occupation authorities accountable for grave violations, and ensure the protection of Palestinian prisoners in accordance with international law.

The community also calls for serious international action to stop escalatory policies and end measures targeting the Palestinian people and their fundamental rights, in order to achieve justice, freedom, and independence.
