
(Patria) - The World Junior Ice Hockey Championship (Division III – Group B) started tonight in the Skenderija Centre ice hall.
The championship, featuring the national teams of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Luxembourg, and the Republic of South Africa, was officially opened by the Minister of Culture and Sport of Sarajevo Canton Kenan Magoda, President of the BiH Hockey Federation Adnan Korić, and the championship chairperson from the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Heikki Hietanen.
Minister Magoda wished the championship participants and guests a warm welcome to Olympic Sarajevo.
“40 years ago, our city hosted the XIV Winter Olympic Games. In these days when we celebrate Olympism, I am extremely happy to have the honor of opening the World Junior Ice Hockey Championship. I wish our national team and our guests much luck with good sporting results, and that you fondly remember Sarajevo in your careers,” said Minister Magoda.
He added that the Sarajevo Canton Government and the relevant ministry are committed to continuous support for the development and popularization of ice hockey in Sarajevo Canton and in BiH.
The Ministry of Culture and Sport of Sarajevo Canton supported the BiH Hockey Federation with a record amount of 150,000 KM, for which the President of the BiH Hockey Federation Adnan Korić thanked them on this occasion.
He invited all sports enthusiasts and the national team to come to Skenderija and support the “ice dragons” in the upcoming matches.
The championship will last until January 29, and admission to all championship matches is free.
