Winter Olympic Games Opened, Bosnian Tanja Karišik Wins Sympathies of World Public

PYEONGCHANG, (Patria) - The 23rd Winter Olympic Games were ceremonially opened in the South Korean city of Pyeongchang.

The flag of Bosnia and Herzegovina at the opening was carried by skier Elvedina Muzaferija.

In addition to Muzaferija, BiH is represented at the Games by alpine skier Emir Lokmić, as well as Tanja Karišik and Mladen Plakalović in cross-country skiing.

Tanja Karišik already attracted the attention of the world public at the opening itself, and a large number of world media included our competitor among the most beautiful sportswomen at the Olympics.

More than 6,000 athletes from 92 countries around the world will participate in the Games.

Athletes will compete in seven sports and 12 disciplines, and medals will be awarded in a total of 102 events.

The greatest public attention at the opening was caused by the handshake between South Korean President Moon Jae-in and the sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, Kim Yo-jong.

Kim Yo-jong is the first member of the ruling North Korean family to visit South Korea since the Korean War in 1953.

Athletes from North and South Korea will compete in some sports under the same flag.

South Korea will host the Olympic Games for the second time, and previously the capital Seoul hosted the Summer Games in 1988.
