(Patria) - The 44th Theatre Games, one of the oldest and most prestigious theatre festivals in Bosnia and Herzegovina, were ceremonially opened last night in Jajce.
Until July 4, the audience will have the opportunity to watch seven plays in the competition programme on the stage of the Dom kulture, along with a rich accompanying programme.
The festival was opened by actor Izudin Bajrović, who was symbolically handed the key to the city of Jajce for the duration of the festival. Bajrović, a leading actor of the National Theatre Sarajevo, is considered one of the most significant actors in BiH.
The ceremonial opening was preceded by the opening of an exhibition of theatre posters by author Almir Kurt, set up in the lobby of the Dom kulture.
“We hope that this year, too, we will provide the audience and guests with unforgettable moments and confirm the significance of the Theatre Games as the longest-running showcase of professional theatres in the country,” the organisers said.
The selector of this year's programme is writer and professor Nedžad Ibrahimović, and the festival opened with the play “The Broken Jug” based on the text by Heinrich von Kleist, directed and adapted by Tatjana Mandić Rigonat. The play is performed by the National Theatre of Republika Srpska from Banja Luka.
Alongside the main programme, this year's Theatre Games also offer acting and movement workshops, teacher training, exhibitions, roundtable discussions after the plays, as well as a number of other contents that promote theatre and visual arts and the work of theatre creators from across the country.
