(Patria) - Local elections, previously postponed due to devastating floods, are being held today in the municipalities of Fojnica, Kiseljak, Kreševo, and Konjic. Polling stations opened at 7 AM.
A total of 54,379 registered voters, with the assistance of 16 mobile teams, will have the opportunity to vote at 118 polling stations, two weeks after the elections for mayors and municipal and city councils concluded in the rest of the country.
Konjic has the largest number of voters, with 21,951 people eligible to vote at 51 polling stations.
Kiseljak follows with 17,933 registered voters at 26 polling stations.
In Fojnica, where 10,555 citizens have the right to vote, 18 polling stations are open. Kreševo has the smallest number of voters, with 3,940.
Due to the serious consequences of floods in some parts of Konjic, three polling stations (Jasenik, Džanići, and Višnjevice) have been relocated to the Konjic Secondary School to allow evacuated citizens to exercise their right to vote.
For those who remained in the affected areas, six extraordinary mobile teams have been formed to deliver election materials to voters.
The election silence began yesterday at 7 AM and lasts until the closing of polling stations tonight at 7 PM.
Due to specific circumstances, the Central Election Commission of Bosnia and Herzegovina has implemented special measures.
Voters whose personal documents were destroyed in the floods are enabled to vote by presenting a special ID card form (LK-O-I4), which they could obtain from the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Additionally, to ensure the transparency and regularity of the election process in Fojnica, all ballots will bear a special stamp marked "postponed elections".
This additional measure was introduced by the CEC BiH because the ballots were already with the polling station committees, but without any doubt of compromise to the election material.
The only municipality where elections will not be held today is Jablanica, where conditions for their conduct have not yet been met due to the consequences of the floods, reports Fena.
Despite the challenges they faced due to natural disasters, citizens of Fojnica, Kiseljak, Kreševo, and Konjic, with the help of mobile teams and special measures, will have the opportunity to participate in the electoral process.
The outcome of these elections will not only bring political decisions but will also reveal how determined citizens are, despite the disasters, to go to the polls and exercise their democratic right.
