(Patria) - More than a hundred Bošnjaci from Stolac voluntarily began building a wall this morning around the site designated for the Poprati–Popržen cemetery, near Radimlja, reports Mostarlive
This is a kind of peaceful resistance and a message to the city administration led by the HDZ BiH, which has been systematically carrying out segregation against the Bošnjaci of Stolac for years.
That administration previously issued, and then revoked, the Permit for the construction of a cemetery at the mentioned location.
Additional tensions were caused by the recent adoption of the Spatial Plan of the City of Stolac for the period 2024–2034, which envisages moving the Bosniak cemetery to a remote and inaccessible location, Dragovilja, near the inter-entity boundary line with the RS.
Sharp reactions came from associations and political organizations, as well as the Islamic Community. It is emphasized that the revocation of the already issued permit is illegal and that the Bošnjaci of Stolac must be provided with a dignified space for burying their loved ones.
The Mufti of Mostar, Salem ef. Dedović, recently stated that this is a continuation of the policy of isolation and disenfranchisement of Bošnjaci in this city.
