(Patria) - Members of the BiH staff of the Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Tehran have left Iran and landed at Sarajevo Airport yesterday afternoon, it has been confirmed for the media.
The BiH Ambassador to Iran, Nijaz Čardaklija, stated that the BiH Embassy in Tehran, like some other diplomatic missions, continues to function, but with reduced capacity and the engagement of local staff.
According to him, the embassy is not closed, but is currently operating on a technical level, meaning it continues to receive and respond to official acts and correspondence.
He said that after the escalation of the war, the evacuation of staff was considered, but it was initially postponed. In the end, as he points out, the recommendation of the local authorities was decisive.
– The embassy is operating on a technical level. We receive and respond to acts and correspondence. Diplomatic activities have anyway ceased, there are practically no diplomatic corps left in Tehran. Visas are no longer issued – Čardaklija told Avaz.
He added that one of the basic obligations of the host country is to ensure the physical integrity of diplomatic facilities and the safety of accredited diplomats, but that in the current circumstances, this could no longer be fully guaranteed.
– As long as we were there, we were a burden and a concern for them. Now they have at least one less worry – said Čardaklija.
