Thanks to the financial support of the Centar Sarajevo Municipality, 86 students from 11 elementary schools in the Centar area attended a free skiing school on Igman during the recent winter break, the Municipality of Centar announced, as reported by the Patria news agency.

The free skiing school for fourth, fifth and sixth grade students from financially disadvantaged families was organized in two shifts at Malo Polje on Igman. With the professional assistance of physical education teachers, 40 girls and 46 boys successfully mastered the basics of skiing. The training for the first group lasted from January 4 to 8, and for the second from January 11 to 18, 2016.

The goal of the project was to enable students to spend time on snow during the winter season in order to improve their basic skiing elements, and through competitive activities to strengthen their will, perseverance and determination. During the skiing school, the children went through all the preparatory phases in which they learned climbing, braking, falling and other skills. After that, the teachers taught them the wedge skiing technique, and the most successful participants used the baby lift.

Transportation, a sandwich and tea were provided for all participants of the school, and the Municipality also provided 71 sets of ski equipment.

The aforementioned project, into which the Centar Municipality invested 10,500 KM, was implemented in accordance with the Operational Plan of Extracurricular Activities in the Field of Sports for the 2015/2016 school year, in cooperation with the Public Institution "Center for Sports and Recreation", the statement said.
