The Balkan Muslim Consumer Association (Balkan Muslim Consumer Assocation/BMCA) was established earlier this week in Sarajevo. This is the first organization of its kind in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as in the Balkan region.
There are 7 million Muslims in the Balkans, and 40 million in Europe, with a growing trend. Therefore, one of the main goals of the association is to protect and improve the rights of Muslim consumers, achieve their common interests and goals, and align consumer habits with their spiritual values.
The association will provide citizens with education on the market situation, analyze various products and services, and compare them with the permissible halal standard. The association will cooperate with the Halal Quality Certification Agency and will collect and analyze data on the contents of certain products. This will ensure greater transparency in the standardization and labeling of ingredients on declarations.
Twenty initiators of the association attended the founding assembly, representing various fields: the food and pharmaceutical industries, medicine, chemistry, management, economic sciences, information technology, marketing, Islamic studies, halal certification, etc.
Such associations have a long history in both Eastern and Western countries.
