Osmanović received representatives of the Special Olympics of BiH

Minister of Civil Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina Adil Osmanović received representatives of the Special Olympics of BiH, medal winners at the Winter Olympic Games held last month in Austria, and members of their professional staff.

Representatives of the Special Olympics of BiH informed Minister Osmanović that more than 3000 athletes from 117 countries participated in the Winter Olympic Games.

- Our athletes competed in alpine and Nordic skiing, and won a total of 14 medals, including five gold, three silver, and six bronze. Olympic champions were Edna Šunjić and Andrija Radoš in alpine skiing, Kristina Klačar and Edita Dikonja in Nordic running - said the executive director of the Special Olympics of BiH, Kada Delić Selimović.

Minister Osmanović congratulated them on their great success and emphasized that the Ministry of Civil Affairs recognizes the work invested in the sporting achievements of persons with disabilities.

- Aware of the importance that sport has for this category of the population, we strive to place the Special Olympics of BiH at the same level as other umbrella sports organizations in all regulations. We hope that all of this will also result in opportunities for financial support for your work - said Minister Osmanović.

Representatives of the professional staff of the Special Olympics of BiH, Asim Topalović and Aid Ahmetović, pointed out that inclusion is most successfully implemented through sport, which has an immeasurable impact on the status of the children they work with in the community.

- Our wish is to include children with disabilities in regular sports competitions, in order to improve their sports results, but also to include them more effectively in all aspects of life - said coach Milenko Vujinović.

The Winter Olympic Games for persons with disabilities are the second largest sporting event in the world, immediately after the Olympic Games. Representatives of the Special Olympics of BiH also informed Minister Osmanović about the desire for Bosnia and Herzegovina to host such a sporting event in the future.
