Bosnia and Herzegovina Armed Forces to receive 15 million euros in EU aid

(Patria) - The Council of the European Union today adopted an assistance measure worth 15 million euros under the European Peace Facility, aimed at strengthening the military and defence capabilities of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina. This decision builds upon the support previously provided through bilateral aid packages in 2021 and 2022.

The new assistance measure is focused on enhancing the interoperability and operational readiness of the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and their ability to contribute to the Common Security and Defence Policy operations and missions of the European Union, as well as to all international coalitions.

Today's decision confirms the continuous engagement with Bosnia and Herzegovina in the area of security and defence, and reflects the country's full alignment with the European Union's Common Foreign and Security Policy. In the regional context, the European Union and Bosnia and Herzegovina continuously reaffirm their commitment to improving cooperation in this area, including through Bosnia and Herzegovina's participation in the Balkan Medical Task Force, a regional initiative also supported through the European Peace Facility.

The European Peace Facility will provide the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina with individual protective equipment, chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) protection equipment, night vision devices, and trucks. It will also, as needed, provide accompanying materials and services, including operational training.

The European Peace Facility was established in March 2021 to finance activities within the framework of the Common Foreign and Security Policy, with the aim of conflict prevention, peace preservation, and strengthening international security and stability. Specifically, the European Peace Facility enables the European Union to finance activities aimed at strengthening the military and defence capabilities of third countries, as well as regional and international organizations.
