Municipalities of Stari Grad and Istočni Stari Grad jointly repair the regional road connecting them

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Mayor of Stari Grad Sarajevo Municipality Ibrahim Hadžibajrić and Mayor of Istočni Stari Grad Municipality Bojo Gašanović signed an agreement today on the repair of the road route Gazin Han-Emerovice-Zečija glava. 

This is a regional road that connects these two local communities, which is extremely important for the residents of Faletići, Emerovice, Brusulje and Gazin Han, and represents the so-called 'lifeline' at the crossing between the two entities. It was emphasized that the municipalities of Stari Grad and Istočni Stari Grad are one of the rare examples of good inter-entity cooperation, all for the benefit of their citizens. This practice will be continued.

The Civil Protection of Istočni Stari Grad Municipality had previously warned about damage on this section caused by large amounts of precipitation, which led to the erosion of gravel material from side roads, the formation of potholes, and clogging of drainage channels. The terrain was also inspected by the Civil Protection of Stari Grad Municipality, and concrete steps were agreed upon.

Mayor Ibrahim Hadžibajrić stated during the signing of the agreement that this is not only a continuation of cooperation between the two municipalities, but also a continuation of mutual trust.

“These two municipalities, from the Federation of BiH and the Republika Srpska, are a unique example of cooperation between the two entities. There are numerous joint projects we have carried out: construction and reconstruction of roads, water supply systems, lighting, snow removal. Today, little is said about such concrete things that are being done, and it has mostly been reduced to politicking,” said Hadžibajrić and added that today's signing of the agreement on the joint project is yet another example of good cooperation.

“We will work on the reconstruction of the street from Gazin Han towards Hreša. It starts from the part of the road in the Federation, and the funds will be operational in the next few days,” said Hadžibajrić and explained that the Stari Grad Municipality is financing the works in the part of the FBiH with an amount of 175,000 KM. It is planned to remove shrubs and vegetation along the road route to ensure better visibility for drivers, followed by cleaning of gutters and drains, patching potholes, partial asphalt paving, along with the construction of retaining walls.

Mayor Gašanović confirmed the readiness of Istočni Stari Grad Municipality to participate in the cleaning and repair of the road, especially since a large number of entrepreneurs from this municipality are oriented towards the capital city, and better road communication will mean a lot to them.

“The cooperation between our two municipalities has lasted for almost ten years and continues through this project of cleaning and arranging the road, which is equally important for the residents of both municipalities. We have done a lot in the field of infrastructure, water supply, electrification, all with the aim of improving the living conditions of our citizens. The cooperation between me and Mayor Hadžibajrić has always been good and fair, and I believe that this type of cooperation should be applied by everyone in BiH, both at the inter-municipal and inter-entity levels,” said Gašanović.

“Perhaps the most important aspect of this entire cooperation is that we overcome differences and work for the well-being of the population, not for the sake of politics which is different on one side or the other,” added Gašanović.

Eight years ago, these two municipalities jointly carried out the reconstruction of the Zlatište-Širokača road, and laid new asphalt on a 400-meter-long section. The project cost about 58,000 KM, of which the Stari Grad Municipality provided 35,000 KM, and the Istočni Stari Grad Municipality 23,000 KM.

Earlier, these municipalities jointly implemented projects to introduce lighting in the village of Mešinovići and in Faletići.
