Novo Sarajevo Municipality Allocates 140,000 BAM for Respirators for Sarajevo Hospitals

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Mayor of Novo Sarajevo Municipality Nedžad Koldžo, the Director of the General Hospital „Prim.dr Abdulah Nakaš“ Zlatko Kravić and Amra Karić, Director of Non-Medical Disciplines of the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo signed on Monday, April 13 this year an Agreement on the realization of Grant funds for the procurement of respirators. The Novo Sarajevo Municipality, through the Civil Protection Service, and in accordance with the Decision of the Civil Protection Headquarters, allocated funds in the amount of 140,000 BAM for the procurement of two respirators for two Sarajevo hospitals with the aim of prevention and adequate training of health institutions during the period of the spread of the coronavirus epidemic.

In his address, the municipal mayor Nedžad Koldžo pointed out that one of the decisions of the Municipal Civil Protection Headquarters was to direct part of the funds to these two primary medical institutions in the Sarajevo Canton area.

"By allocating these funds, we as a local community want, not only declaratively, but also practically, to help in the procurement of equipment for the General Hospital and KCUS, especially what is a priority today when it comes to treating patients suffering from the coronavirus, and that is the procurement of respirators about which there has been much controversy in the public recently", emphasized Mayor Koldžo.

The Novo Sarajevo Municipality and the Municipal Civil Protection Headquarters have undertaken a series of measures and activities since the state of natural disaster caused by the coronavirus pandemic was declared in Sarajevo Canton.
Special measures and activities are dedicated to the improvement and training of medical institutions, starting with the Novo Sarajevo Health Center as the central primary healthcare facility in the Novo Sarajevo municipality. This health institution has so far been delivered a larger quantity of protective material and disinfectants, then a container for triage was procured, a new medical vehicle was procured and delivered, and a disinfection tunnel was set up at the entrance to the Novo Sarajevo Health Center.

The allocation of funds for the procurement of respirators for Sarajevo hospitals represents a further step towards improving and helping the health system during the coronavirus pandemic, the ultimate goal of which is the protection of public health, both in the area of the Novo Sarajevo municipality and in the area of Sarajevo Canton and beyond.
