Municipality Centar Donated 107 Packages to People from Žepa and School Supplies to Students

During the past aggression on Bosnia and Herzegovina, Žepa was a small Bosnian enclave that resisted the attacks of a far superior enemy. By a UN Resolution, when it was declared a "Protected Zone", the people of Žepa were disarmed and this place was entrusted to UN forces for safekeeping. Until July 25, 1995. Then began the unprecedented exodus of its inhabitants and defenders. The legendary Žepa remained burned and destroyed, reports the BH News Agency Patria.

Today in Žepa, which administratively belongs to the Municipality of Rogatica, about a hundred families live. The President of the Local Community Council of Žepa, Nermin Omanović, says that more than 60 percent of the population in this place consists of pensioners.

"Our neighbors have minimal pensions and live with difficulty. There are people who work, but ultimately the situation is very difficult. There are families with four or more members, and they all survive on one minimal pension," Omanović points out.

The Municipality of Centar Sarajevo, led by Mayor Dževad Bećirević, has always shown a great deal of sensitivity towards people in need of help. Thus, 107 packages with basic food items were provided for the residents of Žepa. A delegation from the Municipality of Centar, led by Mustafa Resić, advisor to the municipal mayor, and Adil Katić, advisor to the Chairman of the Council, visited Žepa and handed over aid to the residents of this local community.

Edhem Kučević, a resident of Žepa, says that the delivered aid is priceless.

"We survive here as best we can. My family and I somehow make ends meet, but there are people who have nothing to eat. Because of all this, this aid means a lot to all of us. I thank Mayor Bećirević and the Municipality of Centar because they remembered us in Žepa," emphasizes Kučević.

Nura Čavčić says that thanks to the donation from the Municipality of Centar, her life will be much easier in the next two months.

"I live on a pension of 180 marks. I barely survive. This package means I will have something to eat, and for that, I am very grateful," states Čavčić.

The delegation from the Municipality of Centar also visited the local primary school in Žepa. Before the aggression on our country, 800 students attended the school in Žepa. Now there are only nine, and on this occasion, they were given school supplies. The youngest residents of Žepa thanked the Municipality of Centar for the valuable gifts that will make their school days easier and reduce their parents' worries about purchasing basic teaching materials.
