Municipality Centar Donated 5,000 KM to Sarajevo Library

Considering that the Sarajevo Library is a public institution of special social and cultural importance, the Municipality Centar has been maintaining good cooperation and providing support to this cultural institution for a longer period in order to improve working conditions and provide better services to citizens, reports the BH News Agency Patria.

Thus, 5,000 KM was allocated from this year's municipal budget to the Public Institution Sarajevo Library.

Acting Director of the Public Institution Sarajevo Library, Alma Sarajlić, thanked the Municipality Centar for its long-term financial support.

– We plan to purchase necessary literature for the library with this monetary donation at the upcoming Winter Book Fair. The criteria for selecting books are such that the wishes and needs of our users are our priority, followed by new world publishing production of all genres. We also need to meet library standards by purchasing books for our local history collection, the monograph publication deposit... – said Sarajlić.

The signing of the protocol on the donation of municipal funds, which was previously signed by Mayor Dževad Bećirević, was attended by Zakira Šero, Assistant Mayor for Education, Culture, and Sports.

The Sarajevo Library is the only public library in the Sarajevo Canton and, during its more than 60 years of existence, has played a significant role in raising the educational level of the population and preserving the cultural heritage of Sarajevo and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The library has 16 branches in the Canton, five of which are in the Municipality Centar.

Since 2009, the Municipality Centar has allocated 30,000 KM to the Sarajevo Library for the purchase of new books, and in order to enrich the library's collection, it has also been given books purchased by the Municipality Centar through the budget grant for the purchase and publication of books on several occasions.
