A heated debate between BiH Presidency member Bakir Izetbegović and BiH Council of Ministers Chairman Denis Zvizdić with Milorad Dodik, president of the BiH entity Republika Srpska, marked the first panel discussion "Views from Within" at the conference marking the 20th anniversary of the Dayton Peace Agreement, held today in Banja Luka, reports the Patria news agency.
The debate ensued after Dodik, in his address, among other things, said that BiH is "a place of imposed political loves, a place of emigration, a place where return fails, a training ground for the international community."
"Dayton had a fundamental flaw because it allowed BiH to survive," Dodik stated, and emphasized that the international community has supported the concept of the Bosniak people since the Dayton Agreement.
Dodik also pointed out that in the past, high representatives of the international community in BiH violated the Dayton Peace Agreement, which led to the current situation, which the RS president called chaotic.
Izetbegović responded by saying that the predominantly Christian international community supports Bosniaks because they are fair and ready for cooperation.
"If we all behaved like Milorad Dodik, I don't know where that would lead us," Izetbegović said.
He also said that Dayton "is treated like a Swedish table from which you take what you like and can ignore what you don't like."
Izetbegović repeatedly stated that Annex 7 of the Dayton Agreement has not been implemented, that refugees have not returned to their homes, to which Dodik replied that no one is prevented from returning to the RS. Dodik also emphasized that he is not interested in BiH falling apart, but also that he is not the one who will accept political solutions outside the Constitution.
With Zvizdić, Dodik debated regarding the function of the BiH Council of Ministers, which he said is an auxiliary institution of the BiH Presidency, while Zvizdić claims that the BiH Constitution states in three places that the Council of Ministers is the Government of BiH.
In addition to the three of them, the panel also included Dragan Čović, Chairman of the BiH Presidency, Marinko Čavara, President of the FBiH, and Igor Crnadak, Minister of Foreign Affairs of BiH, as well as Filip Vujanović, President of Montenegro, as an honorary guest, reports Anadolu Agency.
