Commemoration held for Elvedin Begić; Emir Spahić recalled words from Brazil

(Patria) - A commemoration for Elvedin Begić, former president of the Football Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina and one of the directors of Sarajevo International Airport, was held today from 3:00 PM at Sarajevo International Airport.

The commemoration moderator read a speech by Emir Spahić, former captain and now sports director of the Dragons.

In his speech, Spahić recalled a sentence Dino told him before the match against Argentina, the first at the World Cup: “Here we are too, Spaha…”



In addition to Spahić, speakers included Bakir Karahsanović (former Airport director), Amadeo Mandić (Assistant Minister for Construction, Management and Development of Airports, Aviation Infrastructure and Airlines), Nikolina Bušić (air traffic sector), Amel Kosovac (Dean of the Faculty of Traffic and Communications), and Alan Bajić (Airport director).

The funeral and burial of Elvedin Begić will also take place today at the "Suhodol-Butmir" cemetery in the Sarajevo neighborhood of Butmir at 5:15 PM.

Begić was elected president of the Football Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina on two occasions. The first time at a session on December 13, 2012, and the second time the Assembly of the Football Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina voted confidence in him on December 22, 2016.

During his first term, the Dragons qualified for the World Cup in Brazil in 2014.



He was born on October 24, 1960, in Sarajevo. He graduated from the Faculty of Traffic in Sarajevo, and from 1983 he was employed at Sarajevo Airport.

He has been involved in football since 1979, initially actively participating in the work of FK Butmir, where he served as president from 1996 to 2004, and later on the club's board. As a sports worker, he was a delegate in the Assembly of the Football Association of the Sarajevo Canton, a member of the Presidency of the Football Association of the Sarajevo Canton, and a member of the Security and Stadiums Commission of the Football Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina.


He was elected to the position of president of the Football Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2012, and he was also a member of the Normalization Committee of the Football Association of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He also served as the first vice-president of the UEFA Stadium and Security Committee.
