One-Month Detention Ordered for Nedžad Bajraktarević for Embezzling 600,000 BAM from CBBiH

Deciding on the proposal of the Prosecutor's Office of BiH for ordering a detention measure, the Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina issued a decision on December 11, 2014, granting the proposal of the Prosecutor's Office, thus ordering a one-month detention for the suspect Nedžad Bajraktarević from the day of deprivation of liberty. According to this decision, the detention may last until January 9, 2015, or until a new decision of the Court, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria.

We recall that, within the framework of regular and extraordinary control of the treasury status, using the internal control system, a shortage in the amount of 600,000 BAM was established in the treasury of the Main Unit Sarajevo of the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the Governor of the Central Bank of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kemal Kozarić, informed the investigative authorities about it, after which Bajraktarević was arrested. Within his competencies, the Governor suspended nine employees while the investigation is ongoing, and will take all necessary measures in accordance with the investigation.

- The Court, upon reviewing the submitted evidence, established that there is a reasonable suspicion that the suspect committed the criminal offense he is charged with, and ordered detention due to the existence of a well-founded fear that the suspect, if released, could obstruct the criminal proceedings by influencing witnesses and possible accomplices, and destroy, hide, alter or forge evidence and traces important for the criminal proceedings.

Nedžad Bajraktarević is suspected of the criminal offense of embezzlement in office under Article 221, paragraph 3, in conjunction with paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
