Volleyball match at NFL stadium watched by more than 92,000 spectators

(Patria) - The women's volleyball match between the universities of Lincoln and Omaha in the U.S. state of Nebraska was played at an American football (NFL) stadium in front of 92,003 spectators, setting a new world record for a women's sporting event.

The data was published by the U.S. National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

The "Memorial" Stadium in Lincoln is the venue where the previous record, set in April last year at a Women's Champions League football match, was broken.

At that time, the match between Barcelona and Wolfsburg women's football teams at the "Camp Nou" stadium in the largest Catalan city was attended by 91,648 spectators.

Volleyball is the most popular women's sport in Nebraska, and this match is the best proof of that claim.

The home team from Lincoln defeated their biggest rivals from nearby Omaha 3-0 in sets, Hina reports.

This match also broke the previous attendance record at the "Memorial" Stadium in Lincoln, as well as the record for a sporting event on U.S. soil involving women.

The previous attendance record was 90,185, which gathered on July 10, 1999, at the Women's World Cup final, played at the "Rose Bowl" stadium in Pasadena, featuring the national teams of the USA and China.
