(Patria) - The women's volleyball team started their European Championship campaign with a victory. Their first opponent in Group B was Switzerland, whom our team defeated after a comeback with a final score of 3:2 in sets.
The first set was won by Switzerland in a truly dominant fashion, with a nine-point difference, 25:16.
At one point, the difference was even 10 points, at a score of 14:4, and it was already clear then that Switzerland would win the first set.
Our girls pulled themselves together in the second set and responded with an even stronger measure - a ten-point difference. It was 15:25 in the second set for our ladies.
During the third set, the score went back and forth. Our girls pulled ahead to 14:18, but then the Swiss stepped on the gas, equalized at 19:19, and won the tight set 25:23.
Switzerland led 10:9 in the fourth set, but then our girls closed ranks and forced a fifth set in dominant fashion, 17:25.
During most of the decisive set, our girls led, but the Swiss equalized at 13:13, and we witnessed a tense finish. Our girls had two match points, the Swiss came back, but the third time there was no escape for them, and our team secured their first win at the EURO.
Tomorrow, our team faces a match against Bulgaria, a day later they play against Croatia, followed by a three-day break. After that, a match against Romania is scheduled for August 21, and a day later against Italy. That will be the last match they play in the group, but we hope not the last at the European Championship.
In our group, Italy earlier defeated Romania 3:0, while Croatia and Bulgaria have yet to play their match.
Let us remind you that the top four teams from each group advance to the round of 16, and our team has started on the best possible path towards that goal.
